Monster è un film del 2003 scritto e diretto da Patty Jenkins. È tratto dalla storia vera di Aileen Wuornos, condannata per l'omicidio di sette uomini, e poi giustiziata in Florida, il 9 ottobre 2002 dopo 12 anni nel braccio della morte.
L'esordiente Patty Jenkins, per la sceneggiatura, si è basata sulle numerose lettere che la Wuornos ha scritto dal carcere.
Charlize Theron, per immedesimarsi nella parte, è ingrassata di 15 chili, e ha peggiorato il suo aspetto fisico ed estetico, ricorrendo ad uno speciale trucco. Per questo ruolo ottenne l'Oscar alla miglior attrice.

Aileen Wuornos è una prostituta. Un giorno, entrando per errore in un locale gay, incontra Selby, una giovane donna lesbica, non accettata dai suoi genitori.

A dark tale based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, one of America's first female serial killers. Wuornos had a difficult and cruel childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan. She became a prostitute by the age of thirteen, the same year she became pregnant. She eventually moved to Florida where she began earning a living as a highway prostitute--servicing the desires of semi-truck drivers.....
