Ralph Spaccatutto è il cattivo del videogioco arcade Felix Aggiustatutto. Disegnato per servire un unico scopo, da trent’anni distrugge il muro del condominio per dar modo al martello magico del bravo ragazzo Felix di riparare il danno e godersi la medaglia, la torta e l’affetto dei condomini. Per contro, a lui, finito il turno di gioco, non resta che tornare in una discarica di mattoni, solo e dimenticato. Stanco di tutto questo, nonostante il periodico sfogo alla terapia di gruppo per cattivi pixellati, Ralph decide di intraprendere un pericoloso viaggio fuori dalla sua macchina a gettoni, dentro la sala giochi, alla ricerca di una medaglia che offra anche lui il riconoscimento che agogna.
C’è di che restare piacevolmente stupefatti di fronte a questo incontro “intimo” tra cinema e videogame, per più di un motivo. Innanzitutto, siamo di fronte ad un film che, pur facendo del gioco la sua materia, non è costruito per livelli, come siamo invece stati abituati a vedere, fino alla noia, in tanti prodotti per lo schermo dai soggetti più vari. Quel che fa, invece, il film di Rich Moore è, al contrario, parlare di giochi con il linguaggio del miglior cinema narrativo: costruendo per Ralph un vero e proprio viaggio dell’eroe, che ha per tesoro l’esercizio del libero arbitrio, e inventando non uno ma ben quattro universi, ognuno con le proprie regole e la propria estetica. Il mondo in 8bit di "Fix-it Felix Jr”, quello cupo e formicolante di insettoidi dello sparatutto “Hero’s Duty”, quello variopinto e caramellato del gioco di kart “Sugar Rush” (al livello delle invenzioni più acide di Tim Burton o di certi manga) e il mondo della Game Central Station si alternano con equilibrio e fantasia, popolati di un’infinità di creature nuove e vintage (Sonic, Toad, M.Bison, il fantasmino di Pac-Man) e minacciati dal più terribile dei countdown, ovvero la possibilità di finire “out of order”, rottamati e sostituiti da una versione più avanzata.
La ricompensa di Ralph Spaccatutto vale più di mille medaglie ed è la felicità di una “bambina”, la meravigliosa e pidocchiosa Vanellope Von Schweetz. Insieme, il protagonista che giura che non desidererà mai più essere buono e l’incompresa che preferisce correre in macchina che vestire da principessa, non sono certo due rivoluzioni da poco per l’inossidabile politica dei sogni di casa Disney.
Lasseter e compagni si confermano, dunque, ancora una volta, sul circuito giusto, il più attrezzato di tutti quanto a intelligenza, divertimento e capacità di arrivare dritti al cuore. I bambini saranno loro grati, i nerd ancora di più.
