| Descrizione | Jacob è un reduce della guerra del Vietnam che lavora presso le poste di New York, nonostante abbia un Master in filosofia presso il Brooklyn College e tutti i numeri per diventare qualcuno. Questo perché, dopo gli sconvolgenti avvenimenti del Vietnam, dove i commilitoni lo chiamavano professore, si è arreso alla vita e non ha testualmente voluto più pensare. Oltre questo, tempo prima, suo figlio primogenito Gabe è stato investito da un automobilista, portando alla rottura con la moglie Sarah (bionda come metafora del Bene). Jacob si rifà quindi una vita con Jezebel (scura come metafora del male), altro nome biblico come quello dei figli, e con lei vive felicemente ma più modestamente, finché un giorno non inizia ad avere continui flashback della sua esperienza di guerra ed iniziano ad accadere degli strani avvenimenti.
Perseguitato da strane figure, ricostruisce con i suoi ex compagni di plotone ciò che successe loro in Vietnam, proprio in occasione del funerale di un commilitone, saltato in aria con l'automobile (come lo psichiatra del servizio reduci). Forte di tutte le informazioni raccolte si rivolge con i suoi compagni ad un avvocato, ma improvvisamente più nessuno sembra voler appoggiare la sua tesi.
