Ballo di ladri di un pittoresco e immorale quartetto di lestofanti che, con la complicità di un rispettabile avvocato londinese, fanno una rapina in un famosissimo centro di gioielleria e poi cercano di farsi le scarpe l'un l'altro. Son rari i film che metton tutti d'accordo, critici e pubblico, e critici fra loro. Ci è riuscita (almeno in Italia) questa commedia angloamericana, tra le più divertenti e aguzze del decennio 1980-89. Dura 108 minuti, e non ha una gag di troppo. Oscar per K. Kline. Ultimo film di C. Crichton (1910-99).

RECENSIONE

In principio l’dea di organizzare un ambizioso furto di gioielli in un grande centro commerciale londinese, a mettere in atto il colpo un gruppo di malviventi sui generis.

La banda è formata dal boss e ideatore del colpo George (Tom Georgeson), dalla sua amante la sexy-truffatrice Wanda (Jamie Lee Curtis) ed il frustrato Otto (Kevin Kline) che si sente apprezzato più per le sue doti fisiche che per il suo inesistente cervello, Base logistica del colpo l’appartamento del balbuziente Ken (Michael Palin), braccio destro di George e animalista convinto.

Il colpo va a buon fine, un bottino a base di diamanti che fa gola un pò a tutti gli avidi membri della banda, così a bocce ferme Wanda che in realtà è l’amante di Otto fa arrestare George con l’idea di fregare tutti e fuggire con il bottino, ma la cassaforte dove dovrebbero trovarsi i gioielli è inspiegabilmente vuota.

A questo punto entra in scena Archie (John Cleese), l’avvocato di George e la situazione si complicherà ancor di più con un susseguirsi inarrestabile di spassosi cambi di fronte in un continuo chi frega chi all’insegna di uno humour squsitamente british.

Che dire, Un pesce di nome Wanda sfiora la perfezione, un cast veramente azzeccato con un incontenibile Kevin Kline, il suo Oscar come attore non protagonista è meritatissimo, una Jamie Lee Curtis sexy e spassosa, che mette in mostra una vis comica innata e alla regia un veterano del calibro di Charles Crichton.

Una commedia di truffe, rapine, equivoci e tradimenti, un continuo e repentino susseguirsi di gag azzeccate e dialoghi brillanti, attori in stato di grazia, ritmo sostenuto, classe e risate a vagonate, assolutamente da non perdere. (Pietro Ferraro)
