TRAMA

Nel futuro in cui è ambientata la pellicola, il gene dell'invecchiamento viene sconfitto e le persone possono virtualmente vivere per sempre. Per tenere sotto controllo l'inevitabile sovraffollamento che ciò produce si è deciso che ognuno potrà vivere solamente fino a venticinque anni. Dopo tale periodo, chi vuole vivere e passare altro tempo sulla Terra sarà costretto a pagare per questo tempo supplementare, con il risultato che solo i ricchi possono permettersi di vivere in eterno. In questo contesto un giovane, un povero proveniente dal ghetto, viene accusato di aver ucciso un uomo abbiente per impossessarsi del suo tempo e viene inseguito dalla polizia. Nella sua disperata fuga rapisce una donna bella e ricca di cui s'innamorerà.

RECENSIONE

Proprio in un periodo storico in cui non si fa altro che ripetere che la Settima arte abbia ormai raccontato tutto il raccontabile, il neozelandese Andrew Niccol – autore di "Gattaca - La porta dell’universo" (1997), nonché sceneggiatore di "The Truman show" (199 e "The terminal" (2004) – si presenta con un’idea che rasenta la genialità.
Il suo quarto lungometraggio da regista, infatti, si svolge in un futuro in cui il processo d’invecchiamento si ferma a venticinque anni e l’unica maniera per rimanere vivi, quindi, è rubare o ereditare tempo, letteralmente denaro.
Una parabola su celluloide relativa all’odierna ossessione per la giovinezza, ma che, con un look generale che sfiora quello di "Matrix" (del resto, il montatore è lo stesso Zach Staenberg del già classico firmato dai fratelli Wachowski), non lascia troppo celata neppure una certa rilettura allegorica della crisi nel porre Justin Timberlake nei panni di Will Salas, lavorante in fabbrica ritrovatosi tra le mani una quantità di tempo decisamente ingente che gli garantisce l’accesso al mondo dei ricchi, dove incontra l’ereditiera Sylvia Weis alias Amanda Seyfried.
Una storia d’amore e d’azione, ma anche un’analisi della società, che vede i due impegnati a tentare di mettere fine a un sistema corrotto, tra i criminali Minute men, sempre interessati a rubare tempo agli altri, e le autorità rappresentate dai Timekeepers, che accusano ingiustamente Will di reato.
Purtroppo, però, sebbene i toni caldi della fotografia di Roger Deakins forniscano il fondamentale contributo al lato visivo dell’operazione, è soprattutto sui due protagonisti che Niccol sembra concentrarsi; tanto che, nel corso di circa 104 minuti di visione prevalentemente costruiti sui dialoghi e che includono nel cast anche il Cillian Murphy di "28 giorni dopo" (2002), non troppo coinvolgenti risultano le sequenze d’azione.
Quindi, un soggetto altamente originale che meritava di sicuro di essere sviluppato in maniera migliore sullo schermo, ma che, con ogni probabilità, non lascerà affatto delusi gli amanti della fantascienza di derivazione letteraria. Anche se "In time" non prende ispirazione da alcun testo.
