Manhunter - Frammenti di un omicidio (Manhunter) è un film di Michael Mann del 1986. Si tratta della prima apparizione ufficiale su una pellicola cinematografica dello psichiatra
antropofago Hannibal Lecter (qui chiamato Lecktor), reso celebre da Anthony Hopkins e qui interpretato da Brian Cox.
Di questo film è stato girato un remake sedici anni dopo dal titolo Red Dragon (che è anche il titolo, pur se modificato dopo la prima versione, del libro di Thomas Harris dal quale sono
tratti entrambi i film; il primo titolo era I Delitti Della Terza Luna) che pur mantenendo il plot di base sostanzialmente invariato differisce rispetto a Manhunter per alcune sfumature. In
particolare il secondo è più fedele al libro

L'agente Will Graham è andato in pensione anticipata dopo che un'aggressione da parte di Lecter (che in questo film viene chiamato Lecktor) mentre stava per catturarlo lo aveva lasciato con
gravi ferite fisiche e soprattutto psichiche. Gli viene chiesto di tornare in servizio per dare la caccia ad un nuovo pericoloso serial killer, detto "dente di fata", che ha già sterminato
due famiglie durante notti di luna piena. Il metodo investigativo di Graham richiede di immedesimarsi nella parte dell'assassino, ed è per lui estremamente gravoso sul piano emotivo. Graham
reca visita in prigione a Lecter, per avere il suo aiuto nel tracciare il profilo dell'assassino. Lecter lo aiuta, ma entra anche in contatto con l'assassino, e gli comunica l'indirizzo di
Graham, coinvolgendone così anche la famiglia nella caccia. L'assassino, Francis Dolarhyde, è uno psicopatico, incapace di relazioni sociali.............
Will Graham is a former FBI agent who recently retired to Florida with his wife Molly and their young son. Graham was a 'profiler'; one who profiles criminal's behavior and tries to put his
mind into the minds of criminals to examine their thoughts while visiting crime scenes. Will is called out of his self-imposed retirement at the request of his former boss Jack Crawford to
help the FBI catch an elusive serial killer, known to the press as the 'Tooth Fairy', who randomly kills whole families in their houses during nights of the full moon and leaves bite marks
on his victims. To try to search for clues to get into the mind of the killer, Will has occasional meetings with Dr. Hannibal Lecktor, a charismatic but very dangerous imprisoned serial
killer that Will captured years earlier which nearly drove him insane from the horrific encounter that nearly cost Will's life...............
