Enrique è nato a Madrid dal cantante Julio Iglesias e dalla giornalista di origini filippine Isabel Preysler.I suoi genitori divorziarono nel 1978.
Nel 1981, il nonno di Enrique, il Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga fu rapito dal gruppo terroristico ETA, e per la propria sicurezza, Enrique e suo fratello Julio Iglesias Jr. furono mandati a vivere con il padre a
Miami. Enrique Iglesias ha anche vissuto a Belgrado, in Serbia, per un anno insieme alla madre.
Iglesias inizialmente non voleva far sapere a suo padre la propria intenzione di intraprendere la carriera di cantante, né voleva che il suo cognome lo aiutasse. Dopo aver preso in prestito del denaro dalla
governante, ed aver registrato un demo, riuscì ad ottenere un contratto con l'etichetta Fonovisa, spacciandosi per un cantante originario del Guatemala chiamato Enrique Martinez.
Iglesias ha collaborato con il compositore Guy Chambers nello scrivere Un Nuovo Giorno, per Andrea Bocelli. Il brano è stato successivamente tradotto in inglese con il titolo First Day of My Life ed inciso da
Melanie C. Iglesias ha anche scritto The Way per Clay Aiken, concorrente di American Idol e quattro canzoni per il gruppo The Hollies. Inoltre nel 2000, Iglesias ha coprodotto il musical Four Guys Named Jose
and Una Mujer Named Maria, che contiene numerosi riferimenti a brani latin pop di Carmen Miranda, Selena, Richie Valens, Santana, Ricky Martin e dello stesso Iglesias.
Iglesias ha anche lavorato come attore al fianco di Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek e Johnny Depp nel film C'era una volta in Messico di Robert Rodriguez. Nel 2007, è comparso in un episodio della serie
televisiva Due uomini e mezzo, ed in How I Met Your Mother - Alla fine arriva mamma. Enrique Iglesias ha anche recitato il ruolo di un malvagio imperatore romano, negli spot televisivi della Pepsi, in cui
recitavano anche le cantanti Britney Spears, Beyoncé e P!nk. Nel 2010, Enrique ha sciato nudo a Miami per una promessa che aveva fatto, se la squadra di calcio spagnola avesse vinto la Coppa del Mondo.

Enrique Iglesias (born Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler; May 8, 1975) is a Spanish singer, songwriter and occasional actor, popular in both the Latin market and the Hispanic American market in the United
States. He is the son of the famous Spanish singer Julio Iglesias. Within five years of beginning his musical career in the 1990s, he became the biggest seller of Spanish-language albums of that decade. He made
his crossover into the mainstream English language market before the turn of the millennium, signing a multi-album deal with Universal Music Group for an unprecedented US$50,000,000 with Universal Music Latino
to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums. In 2010, he parted with Interscope and signed with another Universal Music Group label, Universal Republic.
Iglesias has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time. He has had five Billboard Hot 100 top five singles, including two number-ones, and
holds the record for producing 22 number-one Spanish-language singles on the Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks. He has also had ten number-one songs on Billboard's Dance charts, more than any other single male
artist. Altogether, Iglesias has amassed 68 number-one songs on the various Billboard charts. Billboard has called him The King of Latin Pop and The King of Dance. Billboard also named Enrique the number two
Latin artist of the years 1986–2011 (Luis Miguel taking the first spot).
