Max, propriettario di una tv porno via cavo, scopre videodrome un canale pirata incentrato su assassinii e torture in diretta. Alla lunga si accorge che videodrome nasconde ben altro....

RECENSIONE

"Videodrome" è senz'altro uno dei più visionari ed innovativi film del regista David Cronenberg. Al di là degli efficaci effetti splatter del grande Rick Backer, di uno stralunato James Woods nei panni del protagonista e di un plot all'apparenza un po' scarno, si nasconde come al solito un discorso affilato come un coltello.

Non mi piace usare superlativi assoluti, quindi dico che secondo me è uno dei film più politici del grande regista, e non il più politico. Un'estenuante riflessione sul potere di manipolazione dei mezzi di comunicazione di massa, sull'abilità persuasiva dell'immagine, capace letteralmente di entrare nella mente del povero malcapitato di turno, costringendolo ad eseguire i propri ordini. Come non vederci una precisa metafora del mondo di oggi? Un mondo dove lo sviluppo di tecnologie sempre più sofisticate ci dà più libertà, ma allo stesso tempo ci incatena a questa libertà fasulla e ci estromette dal resto del mondo.

"Videodrome" è un film potente, sottilmente pervasivo ed inquietante, genialmente visionario. Poi chi possa realmente essere Mr. Oblivion e che cosa rappresenti quel canale Videodrome, è uno spunto goloso per la fervida immaginazione di chi, come me, si diverte a fantasticare su tutti i presunti contenuti metaforici del grande cinema di un grande regista. Cinema puro, cinema che fa pensare e colpisce come una mazzata, va dritto al punto senza tanti complimenti. Da non perdere (Francesco Pognante)
