Quattro spietati rapinatori si introducono in una grande banca e prendono in ostaggio cinquanta persone tra personale interno e clienti. Il braccio di ferro con la polizia, che ha circondato lo stabile sotto la direzione del detective Frazer, è serrato e mette da subito in luce la meticolosa precisione del colpo.

RECENSIONE

Giù il cappello. Dialoghi sottili ed intellettuali, un cast d’eccezione, una tensione latente e chirurgicamente presente e assillante, continui colpi di scena che disorientano…il nuovo film di Spike Lee coglie nel segno e rende omaggio ad un genere, il thriller, troppo spesso umiliato da sparatorie interminabili (retaggio del far west americano) e inseguimenti estenuanti (sotto tirannia degli effetti speciali). Che si sia di fronte ad un film dinamico ed appassionante, lo si capisce fin dai primi dieci minuti, che catapultano lo spettatore immediatamente e senza possibilità di ritorno, nel perverso gioco ad incastro delle mosse del brillante criminale Russell (Clive Owen), dell’intelligente detective Frazier (Denzel Washington) e della scaltra signorina White (Jodie Foster). Una scacchiera complessa e priva dei bianchi e dei neri, dove le dinamiche si susseguono in un contorno sfumato, dove non c’è il Bene e il Male; lo sguardo è rivolto al Potere, all’avidità, al mistero…Si è ben lontani dall’essere emotivamente partigiani, fiancheggiatori di Poliziotti o Rapinatori, l’unico pensiero è rivolto alla soluzione del complicato puzzle ed all’analisi razionale dei differenti personaggi. La loro psicologia.
C’è meno spettacolarità rispetto a: “Il negoziatore”, ma le scene sono ugualmente dinamiche, ricche di tagli improvvisi e inquadrature lampo; il tempo è frammentato in tanti piccoli pezzi, con un continuo rimando tra flash-back e presente; la location è quasi sempre la stessa, due ore nei meandri della maestosa banca Manhattan Trust. Merito di Lee e del suo produttore Brian Grazer, è stato proprio l’aver saputo adattare sul grande schermo la sceneggiatura elettrizzante e complicata dell’esordiente Russel Gewirtz, contando anche sulle collaborazioni di grandi nomi quali Matthew Libatique per la fotografia o Terence Blanchard per le musiche.
