RECENSIONE

Indimenticabile classico della commedia hollywoodiana, “Colazione da Tiffany” è il film che ha consacrato definitivamente la diva americana Audrey Hepburn come una delle più grandi icone del ventesimo secolo: la figura dell’attrice, vestita di nero e con la sigaretta in mano, si è stampata infatti nell’immaginario collettivo, ed è solo uno degli esempi dell’inossidabile popolarità di questa pellicola datata 1961. Diretto dal maestro della commedia brillante Blake Edwards, “Colazione da Tiffany” è basato sull’omonimo romanzo di Truman Capote, e si è rivelato uno dei maggiori successi di pubblico nella carriera della Hepburn, oltre che uno dei film d’amore più famosi nella storia del cinema.

La sceneggiatura della pellicola, firmata da George Axelrod, si distacca notevolmente dal libro di Capote, smussando tutti gli angoli più sgradevoli del racconto e modificandone completamente il finale (con l’introduzione dell’immancabile lieto fine). Il tono caustico e mordace del romanzo di Capote (che per il ruolo di Holly avrebbe voluto Marilyn Monroe) viene così stemperato da Edwards in un’effervescente satira del bel mondo newyorkese, per poi trasformarsi in una delicata favola sentimentale con il sorgere dell’amore fra la protagonista, una bella arrampicatrice sociale a caccia di un matrimonio d’interesse, e Paul Vasrjac (George Peppard), uno scrittore squattrinato che si fa mantenere dalla sua matura amante Liz (Patricia Neal).

Pur restando una versione sostanzialmente edulcorata dell’opera di Capote, “Colazione da Tiffany” ha mantenuto, nel corso degli anni, una sua particolare magia che lo rende tutt’oggi un autentico “evergreen”. Audrey Hepburn, candidata all’Oscar come miglior attrice, è perfetta nel ruolo di questa ragazza graziosa ma insicura, imponendosi come un insuperato modello di eleganza e di fascino. Il compositore Henry Mancini, storico collaboratore di Edwards, ha ottenuto due premi Oscar: per la colonna sonora del film e per la meravigliosa canzone “Moon river”, scritta insieme a Johnny Mercer e diventata uno dei temi musicali più conosciuti ed amati di tutti i tempi.
