11 Settembre 2001. In questo tragico giorno i terroristi sconvolsero il mondo dirottando una serie di aerei e facendoli schiantare contro obiettivi prefissati. Solo uno non raggiunse il bersaglio.., questa ? la storia di quel volo..

RECENSIONE

Cannes - Quanto pu? essere tenue il confine tra Entertainment ed Exploitation? Molte persone pensano che questo confine sia stato sorpassato da un bel pezzo e che, con film come United 93, l'industria Hollywoodiana continui a trasformare il dolore (pubblico o privato che sia) in merce da esporre senza remore nella grande Fiera dello Spettacolo. Sono passati solo cinque anni da quell'11 settembre che, con i suoi realistici effetti speciali, ha cambiato per sempre la nostra percezione della realt?, ed ecco che gi? due pellicole (l'altra ? World Trade Center di Oliver Stone) affrontano direttamente - anche se non criticamente - il pi? tragico atto terroristico della Storia contemporanea. Gli americani, quindi, hanno voglia di ricordare, celebrare o pi? semplicemente rielaborare la vicenda attraverso la catarsi collettiva che solo un medium come il cinema (ma si parla anche di radio, televisione e carta stampata) ? in grado di fornire propriamente. Paul Greengrass (Bloody Sunday) ha dichiarato che "guardando da vicino un singolo evento, spesso si pu? capire dall'osservazione del medesimo qualcosa di molto pi? ampio, praticamente il DNA del nostro tempo". E l'evento scelto dal regista inglese per raggiungere questo nobile scopo ? la triste storia del volo 93 della United Airlines, precipitato, insieme a 40 passeggeri e all'equipaggio, sui prati della Pennsylvania l'11 settembre 2001. Greengrass, durante la lavorazione del film, ha avuto l'appoggio incondizionato dei famigliari delle vittime, i quali hanno fornito al regista ogni sorta di informazione circa i loro congiunti, permettendo una ricostruzione accurata e quasi filologica di quel triste mattino di settembre.
Il risultato ? un film solido ed emotivamente toccante (sconsigliatissimo a chi ha paura di volare!), con una regia frenetica ma giustamente imparziale che si limita a riportare la vicenda attraverso il punto di vista dei protagonisti: i passeggeri, i terroristi e i controllori di volo a terra. I problemi di United 93 emergono nel momento in cui ci si interroga sull'opportunit? di raccontare come "storia vera", una vicenda che molti sostengono essere andata diversamente (l'abbattimento dell'aereo da parte dell'aviazione americana per impedirne lo schianto sulla Casa Bianca). Ma forse ? anche inutile polemizzare: tanto la verit? non la sapremo mai.
