TRAMA

Esperto di arti marziali agente degli inglesi, Bruce Lee ? incaricato di indagare su un pericoloso contrabbandiere di oppio. L'agente deve quindi infiltrarsi nel quartier generale del nemico penetrando sull'isola al largo di Hong Kong, dove questi regna come un despota assoluto e dove si svolge uno strano torneo di arti marziali.

RECENSIONE

Testamento spirituale di Bruce Lee e suo riconosciuto capolavoro, il film, ultimo girato dall'artista, ? espressione completa del suo spirito. Le coreografie dei combattimenti, curate dallo stesso protagonista, danno vita a scene uniche, punto di riferimento e di partenza, oltre che di sicura ispirazione, per l'intero filone e non solo. Definire l'opera "film di arti marziali" ? riduttivo: il titolo ? infatti un mix tra spy story e classico film di arti marziali e il fatto che si cerchi, con esiti apprezzabili, di dare basi credibili alla storia ? un passo avanti rispetto al passato, dove i pretesti per le scazzottate erano molto meno curati a livello di concept. Il re del kung fu risulta convincente anche al di l? delle scene di lotta, dimostrando una personalissima espressivit?.
Lee, campione di arti marziali, viene ingaggiato dai servizi segreti americani per sgominare un rigoglioso traffico di stupefacenti che ha come epicentro un'isola, di propriet? privata, sulla quale ogni anno si svolge un torneo di arti marziali. Sotto copertura come atleta, la letale spia si dar? da fare per smascherare l'attivit? criminale e trover? la collaborazione di altri due partecipanti al torneo.
La pellicola ha il grande pregio di rimanere nel complesso attuale e godibile anche a tanti anni di distanza dalla sua produzione. Nota dolente della versione italiana il doppiaggio, a tratti indisponente. L'ultima parte ? una sorta di film nel film (da 5 stellette): una morte del cigno con cui Bruce Lee conquista l'immortalit? davanti allo spettatore ipnotizzato.
