TRAMA

1869, Brantford New hampshire: Due bambini spaventati si disfano di una strana scatola seppellendola sottoterra.
1969: Il Giovane Alan Parrish, rampollo di un imprenditore dai modi severi e vessato dal bullo Billy Jessup e la sua banda, trova la invitante scatola che si presenta come gioco chiamato "Jumanji. Dopo una accesa lite col padre che lo vorrebbe vedere afrrontare la vita gi? col piglio d'uomo, Alan prepara la fuga, ma viene interrotto dall'arrivo della sua amichetta Sarah Twittle, con la quale, attirato da un ipnotico suono di tamburi tribali proveniente dalla scatola, inizia una partita che lo risucchia nel gioco terrorizzando irrimediabilmente Sarah. Solo con l'uscita di un cinque o di un otto il ragazzo potrebbe tornare nella realt?.
1995: Ventisei anni dopo la sparizione di Alan, nella vecchia casa Parrish arrivano i due orfani Judy e Peter, che incantati a loro volta riprenderanno il gioco in manol liberando l'ormai cresciuto Alan, ma portando nella realt? pericoli di ogni genere, dalle zanzare giganti ad un deciso cacciatore. Purtroppo l'unico modo per dissolvere l'incantesimo ? continuare il gioco fino alla fine...

RECENSIONE

Judy e Peter, rimasti orfani, prendono dimora con una giovane zia in una grande villa da tempo sfitta. Nella soffitta, s'imbattono in un gioco da tavolo dal nome esotico e cominciano una partita. Ma gi? al primo colpo di dadi ? chiaro che Jumanji non ? un gioco come gli altri. Rampicanti carnivori, zanzare giganti, zebre ed elefanti escono dal nulla e distruggono la casa e la citt?. Dalla giungla torna anche Alan (Robin Williams), un uomo che 26 anni prima, giocando con un'amichetta, era finito sulla casella sbagliata ed era scomparso, dato per morto. Come porre fine all'incubo? Solo terminando la partita.
Spettacolare ed adrenalinico, Jumanji ? il frutto della sapienza negli effetti speciali di un collaboratore fisso dell'Industrial Light and Magic di Lucas, Joe Johnston, ma anche della speciale sceneggiatura ad effetto, per usare un gioco di parole, che riesce nell'impresa di tradurre in spettacolo cinematografico la dinamica emotiva che presidia un giovane giocatore all'opera. Dallo scivolo del divertimento alla morsa della tensione e ritorno.
Con grande arguzia, il film associa, tra le righe, il comportamento sproporzionato del bambino che risponde in modo irrazionale al genitore durante un litigio ("non ti parler? mai pi?", per esempio) con la sproporzione delle conseguenze di un lancio di dadi, quando la plancia del gioco si ? allargata ad includere il mondo intero. In entrambi i casi, nel confronto, non si tratta solo di uno scambio di parole o di un movimento di pedine: si tratta di imparare a relazionarsi, ad affrontare le situazioni, si tratta di crescere.
Impermeabile al tempo che ? passato, la pellicola di Joe Johnston, con una giovanissima Kirsten Dunst, ha addirittura anticipato alcune riflessioni di Matrix ("E se rimango incastrato nel gioco?" e chi l'ha accusata di ripetitivit?, ha evidentemente dimenticato che fa parte delle regole.
Da guardarsi quando fuori piove.
