Dal romanzo The Ship Pig di Dick King-Smith. Destinato alla pentola per il pranzo di Natale, un porcellino arriva nella fattoria dei coniugi Hoggett e cambia le regole del mondo con l'intelligenza, la gentilezza, il coraggio, la sincerità. Deliziosa favola di animali parlanti che può essere letta come un'allegoria, ma esige la sospensione del principio dell'incredulità. La lavorazione ha richiesto l'impiego di 500 animali veri (tra cui 48 maialini), 60 addestratori, pupazzi della Creature Shop di Jim Henson e ritocchi al computer, conquistando tra l'altro un Oscar per gli effetti speciali visivi. Seguito da Babe va in città.
