Kevin Flynn è un giovane e geniale programmatore di software per videogame in lotta contro la Encom, una potente società di informatica il cui direttore, Dillinger, anni prima ha fatto carriera facendo passare per suoi alcuni videogiochi in realtà creati dal giovane tecnico. Le prove di tale truffa sono ben nascoste nel megacervellone della ditta e il Master Control Program (MCP), un sofisticato software di intelligenza artificiale, fa da cane da guardia alla banca-dati grazie a un avanzatissimo sistema anti-intrusione, che rende vani i numerosi tentativi di Flynn di infiltrarsi nel sistema (usando anche un alter-ego virtuale, che battezza CLU) per recuperare le prove del furto delle proprie creazioni.
Kevin viene aiutato da Alan e Lora, dipendenti della società che non riconoscono Dillinger come esempio di onestà. La notte in cui il trio si introduce nella sede cercando di forzare il sistema, l'MCP digitalizza Kevin pezzo per pezzo tramite un laser sperimentale, lo trasforma in codice numerico e lo ricompone in forma di energia all'interno dei circuiti integrati che costituiscono il suo universo.
Una volta all'interno del sistema, Kevin scopre con sua grande sorpresa che i programmi realizzati da lui e dai suoi colleghi formano un universo parallelo la cui esistenza consiste nell'eseguire gli ordini che vengono impartiti dal programma in funzione. Nel caso dei videogame, questi esseri virtuali devono combattere senza sosta, giocandosi l'esistenza in base alle sfide proposte dal gioco stesso. Inoltre, la presenza dell'MCP si è fatta nel tempo sempre più dominante e intrusiva, facendone una sorta di signore della guerra, che cerca di prendere sempre più il controllo del sistema, sequestrando e sottomettendo i programmi "fedeli" ai loro creatori (i programmatori in carne e ossa, detti nel film "creativi" .
Flynn si allea con Tron, un combattivo alter-ego virtuale di Alan creato tempo prima per proteggere il sistema, e dopo una rocambolesca fuga a bordo di motociclette virtuali, i due riescono a raggiungere una sorta di zona franca periferica nella quale i guardiani volanti al servizio dell'MCP non riescono a infiltrarsi. I due si uniscono a Yori, alter-ego di Lora, che ha influenza sui mezzi di trasporto nel mondo virtuale, e si mettono in viaggio verso la base dell'MCP per affrontarlo e "cancellarlo".
Anche Dillinger ha un proprio equivalente in questo universo, il malvagio Sark, che guida le forze di sicurezza e si oppone ai protagonisti a più riprese: il duello finale, atto a interrompere la dittatura elettronica dell'MCP, si svolge fra Tron e Sark, il primo dei quali avrà la meglio e farà uscire tutti i programmi dall'oppressione dell'MCP.

Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) is a young and gifted software engineer attempting to hack into the mainframe of software company ENCOM in order to find evidence that senior executive Ed Dillinger (David Warner) stole Flynn's code and presented it as his own, earning him a rapid series of promotions. Flynn is blocked by the Master Control Program (MCP), an artificial intelligence that controls the ENCOM mainframe.
When ENCOM employees Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) and Lora Baines (Cindy Morgan) tell Flynn that Dillinger has tightened security clearances in response to Flynn's hacking attempts, Flynn convinces them to let him into ENCOM so that he can forge a higher security clearance for Bradley's security program "Tron," which would monitor communications between the MCP and the outside world. They take him to the ENCOM laboratory. When Flynn attempts to hack his way into the system, the MCP takes control of a nearby laser, being developed for 'quantum teleportation' and uses it to digitize Flynn into the ENCOM mainframe.
In the mainframe, Programs appear in the likeness of the Users who created them. However, the MCP and its commander, Sark (Warner) have long intimidated most Programs into renouncing their belief in the Users, giving the MCP near complete control over input/output in the system. Programs that refuse to do so are forced to play in gladiatorial games in which losers are destroyed. In the process of playing such games, Flynn meets Tron (Boxleitner); the two escape into the mainframe during a Light Cycle match, and are later split up. While he attempts to reunite with Tron, Flynn discovers that, as a User, he is capable of manipulating the physical laws of the digital world.
Tron manages to communicate with Bradley and receives instructions to destroy the MCP. Tron and another Program, Yori (Morgan), board a solar sailer simulation and make their way toward the MCP core. Flynn boards the sailer just before it departs, and along the way, he reveals his identity as a User. Before they reach the MCP, Sark's command ship destroys the sailer, capturing Flynn and Yori. Sark then leaves the command ship and orders its self-destruction, but Flynn keeps it intact while Sark flies to the MCP's core on a shuttle, carrying a number of captured Programs. Tron, thought to have been killed in the collision, has snuck aboard the shuttle and confronts Sark just outside the core while the MCP tells the Programs of their impending fate. Tron severely damages Sark and attacks the MCP directly, and Flynn distracts the MCP long enough to reveal a gap in its shield. Tron throws his disc through the gap, destroying both the MCP and Sark, and freeing the digital world. Input/Output towers begin to light up all over the landscape as programs begin to communicate with their users.

Nel 1982 i films di animazione non erano diffusi come adesso, anzi, si potrbbe dire che Tron sia un predecessore, veramente all'avanguardia per l'epoca.
Scritto e diretto da Steven Lisberger e interpretato da un giovanissimo Jeff Bridges, Tron, è stato il predecessore di un genere e ha fatto sognare un'intera generazione di fanciulli, tra i quali me.
Vorrei, inoltre, vantare il fatto che la versione BDrip 1080p è un'esclusia di tnt, un formato ottimo dal quale la differenza col bluray è poco e niente.
Quindi godetevelo e ripassate un pò di storia del cinema
