The Haunting in Connecticut is a 2009 American psychological horror film produced by Gold Circle Films and directed by Peter Cornwell. It is supposedly based on the true story of Carmen Reed and her family, as portrayed by author Ray Garton in the book In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting (1992). The film's story follows the fictional Campbells as they move into a house (a former mortuary) to mitigate the strains of travel on their cancer-stricken son, Matthew. The family soon becomes haunted by violent and traumatic events from supernatural forces occupying the house.

Set in 1987, the story centers on Matthew Campbell (Kyle Gallner), who is being treated for cancer in a hospital in Connecticut. After seeing the effect the long commute has on Matt, his family rents a nearby house, which they learn was previously a funeral home. They discover a mortuary room in the basement and the family begins experiencing violent and supernatural events that the parents initially blame on stress and hallucinations from Matt's treatment. Matt also experiences visions from the perspective of a young teenager from the 1920s named Jonah (Erik Berg). Matt contacts a minister he met at the hospital for assistance with his paranormal experiences. He informs Matt that the visions and supernatural encounters are likely a result of the previous occupant's occult activities (including séances and necromancy). The Jonah character is discovered to be the ghost of a psychic medium involved in the previous owner's activities and presently bound to control the "spirits" within the house.
La storia ruota attorno al giovane Matt Campbell, malato di cancro e in cura presso un ospedale del Connecticut. L'ospedale si trova lontano da casa, ma visto che le cure sembrano avere un buon riscontro, la madre di Matt, Sara, decide di trasferire l'intera famiglia il più vicino possibile all'ospedale, per evitare lunghi ed estenuanti viaggi. Sara trova una casa vittoriana a buon mercato, una volta stabilitisi la famiglia scopre che un tempo la casa era adibita a camera mortuaria. Nel giro di poco tempo Matt inizia ad avere angoscianti visioni, che la madre attribuisce allo stress e all'uso di farmaci, in particolare Matt è perseguitato dalla figura di un giovane di nome Jonah e da sedute spiritiche di cui il giovane era protagonista.
