Peyton and Barney are fun loving high school students working on a science project with white mice. When one of the mice begins to move food toward itself with out touching it, Barney finds he has accidently discovered a formula for telekinetic powers. Now, how much trouble can a high school boy who can move things with just his mind get into?
Appassionato di chimica, lo studente Barney Springboro trascorre quanto più tempo gli è possibile nel laboratorio della Ralph Waldo Emerson High School a sperimentare, di nascosto dagli insegnanti, formule e misture di sua ideazione cullandosi nel sogno della grande scoperta che dovrà regalargli fama e prestigio. Un giorno, mescolando avventatamente sostanze chimiche e marijuana, viene investito da una esplosione che, pur lasciandolo indenne, gli conferisce uno straordinario potere telecinetico. Il suo amico Peyton Nichols cerca di convincerlo a sfruttare le nuove incredibili facoltà per ricavarne facili guadagni al gioco d'azzardo e per giocare degli scherzi alle belle studentesse dell'istituto e Peyton, pur riluttante, rimane coinvolto in una serie di tragicomiche avventure fino a quando, a causa di un colpo alla testa, perde definitivamente il potere.
Grossolana commedia demenzial–giovanilistica apparentabile al cosiddetto genere "American College", arricchita - si fa per dire - da uno spunto fantascientifico già largamente sfruttato negli anni '60, con maggiore fantasia e con risultati migliori, dalle produzioni della Disney, da Un professore tra le nuvole al Computer con le scarpe da tennis.Il regista Robert J. Rosenthal ha pensato di dargli una sorta di seguito nel 1993 con Zapped Again!.
