Mad Max, l'intrepido guerriero di "Interceptor" è di nuovo sulla strada. Nell'aspro deserto, reso ancora più inospitale dalla natura contaminata dal disastro atomico, si gioca la partita mortale della vita e della morte. L'unica moneta corrente è il petrolio, oramai agli sgoccioli: Mad Max scova un deposito del prezioso liquido assediato dalla tribù dei feroci Umungus, e ingaggia con questi una durissima battaglia.

Un bel sequel che non fa rimpiangere il primo "Interceptor" ma sposta l'asse della drammaticità e della violenza. Se l'esordio di Mad Max era cupo e tragico, adesso acquista un inedito respiro avventuroso.

RECENSIONE

Dopo l'inaspettato successo conseguito con "Interceptor – Mad Max", che lanciò Mel Gibson nel mondo del cinema aprendogli la strada verso la notorietà, il regista George Miller nel 1981 decise di realizzarne il sequel.
Anche se si tratta del secondo capitolo di una trilogia, "Interceptor – Il Guerriero della strada" può essere visto tranquillamente come film a se stante; l'inserimento di una breve introduzione, caratterizzata dalla voce di un narratore che racconta gli avvenimenti del primo episodio, lascia infatti allo spettatore la facoltà di seguire il film senza necessariamente aver visto il primo capitolo.
Tale narrazione descrive un futuro in cui le continue guerre hanno devastato l'intero pianeta riducendolo ad un immenso deserto. Le potenti tecnologie costruite dall'uomo, ridotte ormai in rottami, non hanno più alcun valore; siccità e carestia, protagoniste di uno scenario apocalittico post-atomico, hanno ridotto l'uomo a cibarsi di carne umana per sopravvivere. Max, guerriero solitario introdotto nel film come un mercenario senza scrupoli, si muove a bordo di una potente macchina alla perenne ricerca di benzina.
L'unico oggetto di valore nello scenario prospettato è la benzina, ed essendo quindi l'unica fonte di salvezza ogni tipo di crudeltà è concessa ai sopravvissuti all'olocausto nucleare pur di ottenerla.
Ma dove si può trovare benzina a sufficienza per sfuggire al proprio destino in un mondo quasi deserto? La risposta è in una raffineria, dove alcuni sopravvissuti riescono ad estrarre ancora il petrolio nel bel mezzo delle "Terre Perdute". Per ottenere la benzina però, Max se la dovrà vedere con una gang di motociclisti capitanata da Lord Humungus.
