| Descrizione | Mahjongg Artifacts: Chapter 2
Un titolo che sicuramente apprezzeranno i proseliti della cultura orientale. Infatti, nonostante in Occidente sia praticamente sconosciuto, il Mahjongg va oggi molto di moda nei Paesi dell'Est come Cina e Giappone (anche se negli Stati Uniti sta prendendo sempre più piede). Sebbene il vero Mahjongg sia un passatempo principalmente da godersi in un gruppo di quattro persone, questa versione digitale ci permetterà di giocare esclusivamente da soli. Poco male, visto che lo spirito del gioco è bene o male lo stesso. Livello dopo livello, dovremo abbattere le muraglie di mattoncini messe su dalla CPU, abbinando le tessere uguali il più velocemente possibile e sfruttando a dovere i vari power-up sparsi in giro per il campo. Il livello di difficoltà è praticamente nullo, non essendoci un vero e proprio avversario con cui confrontarsi, ma è la voglia di migliorare il vecchio punteggio - sessione dopo sessione - a spingere il giocatore a riallacciarsi le cinture per secondo, terzo, quarto o quinto giro. Da sottolineare che, oltre la modalità “Storia”, ci viene offerta anche la possibilità di intraprendere una partita con tasselli infiniti da cancellare. Il passatempo perfetto, quando si è in treno. Un applauso particolare alla colonna sonora e alla grafica coloratissima. Consigliato solo a chi preferisce usare il cervello, al posto dei polpastrelli (anche se, più che cervello, servono solo buoni riflessi).

As you might surmise by the name, this, Mahjongg Artifacts, is the prequel to Mahjongg Artifacts: Chapter 2 from G5 Entertainment, which was one of the first Mini titles released. Why are we getting it 8 months after the sequel? Well, Chapter 2 was released for all platforms back then, so I guess it was easier for them.
Like Chapter 2, Mahjongg Artifacts is a solitaire mahjong game (sometimes called Shanghai). While regular mahjong is incomprehensible to me, solitaire mahjong is quite simple – a set of mahjong tiles (sort of a combination of cards and dominos) is laid out in a pattern (which can be simple or quite intricate). You remove identical pairs of free tiles, free meaning that at least one end of it is not touching another tile. The goal is to remove as many pairs as you can.
It’s really a relaxing, casual sort of gameplay, at least when there is no time limit as is the case in this. It doesn’t tax your reflexes or wits, just your eyes and the pattern recognition part of your brain. It’s not for everyone, but it’s something I’ve enjoyed since I first played it about 20 years ago on the PC (Mah Jongg -V-G-A 3.0 was my introduction to these games).
