L\' HELL IN A CELL un match che viene combattuto in una gabbia di acciaio che circonda il ring, chiusa sul tetto e chiusa anche nella porta d\'ingresso alla gabbia con un catenaccio ed un luchetto. Comunque a differenza dello Steel Cage Match, dove non si può uscire o vince chi esce dalla gabbia, nell Hell in a Cell match è consentito uscire. Differisce da un normale Steel Cage Match per via del tetto sulla cella (non presente nella gabbia dello Steel Cage match), per l\'abbondante spazio a bordoring, incluso nella gabbia, e per gli oggetti estranei che possono essere utilizzati durante gli incontri. All\'interno della gabbia possono stare solamente i wrestler e l\'arbitro.Spesso e volentieri il match si sposta sul tetto della cella, dove vengono eseguite le mosse più brutali e violente, come scaraventare l\'avversario giù dalla gabbia. Inoltre la struttura metallica è utilizzata anche come arma per danneggiare l\'avversario. Nell\'Hell In A Cell Match si vince solo tramite pinfall o submission. È considerato uno dei gimmick match più spettacolari della WWE, e, per la sua violenza e difficoltà logistica, dovuta alla gabbia, è un match raro, e destinato a pochi pay-per-view. Nasce nel 1997, nel pay per view Bad Blood, e i suoi primi protagonisti furono Undertaker e Shawn Michaels. Nel corso del match fece la sua prima apparizione nel ring Kane, fratello, in arte, di Undertaker. In seguito l\'Hell In a Cell match è stato combattuto con una cadenza all\'incirca annuale. Memorabile fu l\'Hell In a Cell disputatosi al PPV \"King Of The Ring 1998\" tra Mankind (Mick Foley) e Undertaker, in cui Mankind cadde per ben due volte dal tetto della gabbia d\'acciaio, una volta su un tavolo dei commentatori, un\'altra sul ring,provocandosi diversi infortuni.
Il pay-per-viewHell in a Cell sostituirà il pay-per-view No Mercy.
