Nel 2019, la Terra e' sull'orlo della crisi mondiale. I pasei sono governati da dittature sanguinarie, e l'unico divertimento nazionale (in America) e' seguire "The Running Man", spietato programma Tv che mostra in diretta dei concorrenti combattere contro ogni tipo di pericoli: premio, la vita. Ma quando e' costretto a parteciparvi un poliziotto che ha rifiutato di sparare su pacifici manifestanti 18 mesi prima, il gioco non segue piu' lo sviluppo previsto dal suo creatore.
