Trama
Katniss Everdeen ritorna a casa in seguito alla vittoria avuta nell'ultima edizione degli Hunger Games insieme al suo compagno Peeta Mellark. Ora i due alloggiano con le loro famiglie al Villaggio dei Vincitori, presente in ogni distretto, ma in questo caso abitato solamente dai due vincitori e dal loro mentore Haymitch Abernathy, uno dei passati trionfatori degli Hunger Games.
I due giovani devono ora partire per il Tour dei Vincitori, un viaggio attraverso tutti i distretti per ricordare coloro che sono morti nei giochi. Prima della partenza Katniss riceve inaspettatamente la visita del presidente Snow. Questi le intima di continuare a fingere di essere follemente innamorata di Peeta, come aveva fatto precedentemente all'interno dell'arena. Lasciandole intendere poi che se non si fosse attenuta ai suoi piani, lui avrebbe colpito le persone a lei più care e avrebbe dato il via ad un'irreversibile rivolta sociale dalle terribili conseguenze. Infine viene mostrato alla ragazza un filmato in cui il suo migliore amico, Gale Hawthorne, le porge un bacio.
