Al centro della storia, ancora Richard (Craig Horner), Cercatore che nella scorsa stagione era riuscito a sconfiggere Darken Rahl (Craig Parker). Questo, nel mondo sotterraneo, si mette al servizio del Guardiano, che grazie ad un nuovo mostro scopre l'esistenza di uno squarcio, che il protagonista deve chiudere prima possibile.
Per farlo Richard dovrà cercare la Pietra delle Lacrime, insieme a Kahlan (Bridget Regan) la Depositaria, Cara (Tabrett Bethell) e Zeed (Bruce Spence). Il legame del gruppo sarà più forte grazie anche a nuove rivelazioni che porteranno i protagonisti a dover crescere.
Nonostante la popolarità ottenuta nel corso delle due stagioni, " La spada della Verità" non è stata rinnovata per una terza stagione.
