Pain & Gain - Muscoli E Denaro è un film del 2013 diretto da Michael Bay. Nel 1995, il body builder Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg) viene rilasciato dalla prigione di Miami e contatta John Mese (Rob Corddry), proprietario della palestra ‘Sun Gym’, per convincerlo ad assumerlo. Ottenuto il lavoro, Lugo riesce ad attirare molti clienti e stringe amicizia con il personal trainer Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie), ossessionato dai muscoli e dipendente dagli steroidi. Bramoso di migliorare il suo stile di vita, Lugo decide di punire lo snob e arrogante magnate Victor Kershaw (Tony Shalhoub), nuovo cliente della palestra, rapendolo e costringendolo a cedere tutti i suoi averi. Per assicurarsi che il piano vada a buon fine, Lugo coinvolge Doorbal e l’ex detenuto Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson), formando la ‘Sun Gym Gang’. Indossati bizzarri travestimenti, i tre palestrati rapiscono Kershaw e lo imprigionano in uno dei magazzini in suo possesso. Sebbene abbiano usato le migliori accortezze, il particolare profumo del dopobarba di Lugo tradisce l’anonimato della gang e Kershaw riconosce i suoi aguzzini.
Dopo aver sopportato una serie di torture, il magante è costretto ad assecondare le richieste di Lugo e cede tutto il suo patrimonio alla ‘Sun Gym Gang’, grazie alla complicità di Mese che registra l’atto notarile per conto di Kershaw. Così, Lugo, Doorbal e Doyle si ritrovano a possedere una fortuna che sperperano in droga e chirurgia estetica. L’unico a mantenere uno stile di vita più assennato è Lugo, che vuole tenersi lontano dalla prigione. Dal momento che Kershaw conosce le loro identità, l’uomo deve essere ucciso ma l’impresa sarà più difficile del previsto. Mentre la Gang si abitua alla nuova vita di lusso, Kershaw sopravvive miracolosamente ai molteplici tentativi di omicidio e contatta Mese per assicurarsi che i suoi aguzzini siano consegnati alla giustizia. Con le spalle al muro, i tre amici dovranno tentare l’impossibile…
