Scream, film diretto da Matt Bettinelli-Olpin e Tyler Gillett, è un reboot dell'omonimo franchise horror, inaugurato nel 1996 da Wes Craven. Sono passati ben 25 anni dal massacro avvenuto a Woodsboro, in California, e un decennio dall'ultimo, ma sembra che questa città non sia destinata a vivere in tranquillità. Una serie di crimini sconvolge il paese e le indagini iniziano a diventare talmente ostiche che il nuovo sceriffo Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton), il precedente, ovvero Dewey Riley (David Arquette), e sua moglie Gale (Courteney Cox) decidono di contattare Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), che come loro è riuscita a rimanere in vita nelle precedenti stragi. Sperano che Sidney riesca a dar loro aiuto nello scoprire chi è l'autore di alcuni orribili omicidi commessi e chi è il serial killer che si nasconde dietro la maschera di Ghostface.
La donna fa ritorno nella sua città natale, che continua a registrare ogni giorno sempre più vittime e sembra che questa volta nel mirino del killer siano finiti alcuni giovani del posto...
