L Uomo Dei Ghiacci - The Ice Road, film diretto da Jonathan Hensleigh, racconta di come Mike McCann (Liam Neeson), un autista di camion ed esperto di guida sul ghiaccio, si ritrovi a condurre una missione di salvataggio su un lago ghiacciato, dopo che una miniera di diamanti è crollata nelle regioni settentrionali del Canada, uccidendo 8 minatori. Oltre a lui, Mike ha messo su di tutta fretta una squadra da portare con sé, fra i componenti vi sono suo fratello minore Gurty (Marcus Thomas), il veterano dei camion Jim Goldenrod (Laurence Fishburne) e dall'ex dipendente di quest'ultimo, l'abile Tantoo (Amber Midthunder).
A causa della massiccia quantità di metano nel sottosuolo e di una piccola scintilla, la miniera è esplosa e ai 26 superstiti non restano che 36 ore di ossigeno di riserva, il tempo che Mike e la sua squadra hanno a disposizione per agire prima che sia troppo tardi. Per salvare la vita ai minatori, rimasti in vita, ma intrappolati, il gruppo dovrà affrontare lo scongelamento delle acque, una terribile tempesta, poca visibilità, motori in panne e altre terribili avversità. Ignorano, però, che un'altra minaccia cova nell'ombra: qualcuno sta cercando di ostacolarli per evitare che una scomoda verità venga a galla...
