Ambientato nella New York di metà degli anni '50, racconta la storia dell'adolescente
Henry Hill, cresciuto nella parte malfamata di Brooklyn in una famiglia italo-irlandese.
Con la protezione del boss mafioso Paul Cicero e all’oscuro dai genitori, si specializza
in furto e contrabbando, insieme ai compagni Jimmy Conway e Tommy De Vito.
Tra di loro si chiamano "bravi ragazzi", e ormai divenuti adulti vivono la vita criminale
tra lusso, donne e violenza. Approfittano dell’apertura dell’aeroporto JFK per mettere a
segno diversi colpi e rapine, diventando a tutti gli effetti dei boss temuti e rispettati.
Henry si sposa con Karen dalla quale avrà due figlie, ma continuerà la sua escalation
nel mondo mafioso, invischiandosi nel traffico di stupefacenti, arrivando anche al carcere
e a tradire la sua famiglia e i suoi amici, prima per avidità, poi per salvare la pelle.
