Trama
Siamo nel 1936 negli Stati Uniti della Grande Depressione. Woody Guthrie, che per sbarcare il lunario dipinge le insegne dei negozi e ha come hobby quello di suonare la chitarra, lascia la moglie Mary e le loro due figliolette in Texas per raggiungere la California in cerca di fortuna. Unitosi ad altri disperati come lui e dopo varie peripezie, trova lavoro come raccoglitore di frutta. Ma tra i salariati lo scontento è all'apice e già si parla di sciopero. Quando Guthrie riesce a spuntare un contratto presso una radio locale, decide di sostenere con le sue canzoni, le lotte dei lavoratori.
