Trama
L'agente dei servizi segreti Richard Chance indaga sul contraffattore Eric Masters, che gli ha ucciso il partner Jimmy Hart durante una retata. Insieme al nuovo partner John Vukovich, Chance si lancia a testa bassa in una missione sotto copertura. Deciso a vendicarsi, Chance non intende guardare in faccia a nessuno e dimentica qualsiasi etica, mentre il collega cerca di tenerlo sotto controllo. Ma la violenza chiama altra violenza.
Scritto dal regista con Gerald Petievich, da un romanzo di quest’ultimo, è da molti considerato il miglior Friedkin di sempre, teso, allucinato e ricco di sequenze magistrali.
