Trama
Fielding Mellish, giovane collaudatore industriale, per consolarsi di una delusione sentimenfale, la sua fidanzata Nancy, lo ha lasciato giudicandolo un debole, lascia New York per raggiungere lo Stato di Bananas, una repubblichetta sudamericana afflitta da ricorrenti dittature e frequenti rivoluzioni. Il dittatore di turno, Vargas, tenta di approfittare della presenza dell'americano per ucciderlo e far ricadere la colpa sui ribelli, in modo da ottenere l'aiuto degli Stati Uniti nella sua repressione. Fortunatamente per Mellish, il diabolico piano di Vargas va a monte: i rivoluzionari, guidati dal barbuto Castrado, conquistano poco dopo il potere.
Secondo film di Allen regista. “Scandalosamente divertente” scrissero. Una collana di gag comiche ottime, discrete, mediocri. Uno dei suoi film più anarchici, comunque. Primo film, non accreditato, di S. Stallone nella particina di un teppista della metro.
