Trama
Julien Tavernier viene indotto dalla sua amante Florence, moglie del suo principale Simon Carala, ad uccidere quest'ultimo. L'uomo prepara minuziosamente il delitto disponendo le cose in modo che la polizia sia indotta a credere ad un suicidio. Tuttavia, una volta compiuto il suo crimine, Julien si accorge che dalla ringhiera di un terrazzino pende ancora la corda di cui si è servito per entrare nell'ufficio della vittima predestinata. Deciso ad eliminare la prova che potrebbe essergli fatale, Julien cerca di rientrare nella stanza del delitto, ma proprio quando sta salendo al piano dell'ufficio, la corrente elettrica viene a mancare ed egli resta imprigionato all'interno dell'ascensore. Nel frattempo, la sua automobile viene rubata da Louis che la usa per portare in giro la sua amica Veronique. I due giovani passano la notte in un albergo e Louis, che ha dato le generalità di Julien, non esita ad uccidere due turisti tedeschi per tentare rubare la loro auto. Julien, inconsapevole delle accuse che pendono su di lui per l'omicidio dei due turisti, quando riesce ad uscire dall'ascensore viene arrestato dalla polizia. Florence, anche lei fermata dalle autorità, interviene per fornirgli un alibi, ma potrebbe essere ormai troppo tardi.
