Trama
L'assicuratore Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) conosce Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck), moglie di un cliente, la cui sensualità lo affascinerà a tal punto da farlo diventare prima il suo amante e poi complice nell'assassinio di suo marito. Dopo aver stipulato un'assicurazione sulla sua vita, i due mettono a punto un piano per ricevere il doppio dell'indennizzo (da qui il titolo originale, Double Indemnity) in caso di morte avvenuta in circostanze rare. Per ottenere la somma decidono prima di assassinare l'uomo in macchina, e di gettarlo in seguito sui binari, facendo così credere che la sua morte sia dovuta ad una caduta dal treno.
