Trama
John Robie, detto "Il Gatto", è un ex ladro di gioielli che si è ritirato a vita privata sulla Costa Azzurra, dopo aver pagato i suoi debiti con la giustizia. Da un pò di tempo però, una serie di furti che sembrano eseguiti da lui, insospettiscono la polizia.
Caccia al ladro è una sfilata di classe ed eleganza, la smisurata bravura di Hichcock fa si che questo film sia di difficile definizione: non può dirsi una commedia ma non è esatto parlare di un giallo, e questo non soltanto per l'assenza del consueto "cadavere", ma anche per certe sfumature umoristiche che fanno piuttosto pensare ad altre opere più leggere.
