Si tratta del secondo capitolo della saga di Halloween ed ? stato sceneggiato da John Carpenter, regista del primo capitolo della serie. A differenza degli altri sequel, questo ? l'unico che ? stato scritto da Carpenter e da Debra Hill. Il film segue sin dall'inizio gli eventi del primo film e s'incentra da un lato sulla volont? di Myers di trovare e uccidere Laurie Strode e dall'altro lato sugli sforzi del dottor Loomis per trovare Michael ed evitare il peggio.
Stilisticamente parlando, il sequel riproduce naturalmente elementi-chiave che fecero di Halloween - La notte delle streghe un grande successo come ad esempio la prospettiva in prima persona e i titoli di testa quasi uguali al film precedente. Il film, comunque, a gran differenza rispetto all'orginale, include pi? violenza e sangue, facendolo assomigliare nettamente all'emergente genere degli splatter e non guadagn? quanto il precedente: gli introiti furono pari a 25.5 milioni di dollari, in confronto alle spese di 2.5 milioni.
Halloween II doveva essere l'ultimo capitolo della saga di Halloween che ruotasse intorno a Michael Myers e alla cittadina fittizia di Haddonfield, ma dopo l'insuccesso di Halloween III - Il signore della notte (1982), Myers ritorn? nel film Halloween 4 - Il ritorno di Michael Myers
Halloween II is a 1981 slasher horror film directed by Rick Rosenthal, and written and produced by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. It is the second installment in the Halloween series and is a direct sequel to Carpenter's Halloween, immediately picking up where it had left off. Set on the same night of October 31, 1978 as the seemingly immortal Michael Myers continues to follow Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) to a nearby hospital while Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) is still in pursuit of his patient.
Stylistically, Halloween II reproduces certain key elements that made the original Halloween a success, such as first-person camera perspectives and unexceptional settings, and the film picks up right at the end of the cliffhanger ending of the original movie. The sequel was a box office success, grossing over $25.5 million in the United States. In terms of the response from film critics, the movie has received mixed reviews both during its initial run in theaters and since. Several commentators have found that the movie had a generally uneven pace with plot holes as well as muted character performances yet still featured many genuinely scary moments that captured the spirit of the film.
Originally, Halloween II was intended to be the last chapter of the Halloween series to revolve around Michael Myers and the town of Haddonfield,[1] but after the lackluster reaction to Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982), the Michael Myers character was brought back six years later in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (198 .
