?Houston abbiamo un problema? ? il disperato messaggio inviato dalla navicella Apollo 13, partita l?undici settembre del 1970 con l?obiettivo di portare i tre membri dell?equipaggio sulla luna. Un improvviso guasto tecnico mette a repentaglio la missione e costringe i tecnici della NASA a cambiare obiettivo: ora la priorit? ? riportare a casa Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Fred Haise (Bill Paxton) e Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon).
Jim Lovell ? ancora oggi conosciuto come il coraggioso comandante dell?Apollo 13 che, nonostante il devastante guasto al serbatoio dell?ossigeno, riusc? a tornare vivo dalla missione. Nell?aprile del 1970 Richard Nixon lo omaggi? con una prestigiosa onorificenza: la Medaglia presidenziale della libert?. Lo stesso Lovell ? autore ? insieme a Jeffrey Kluger ? del libro New Moon in cui vengono raccontati quei momenti di terrore che vennero seguiti in tutto il mondo tra paura e speranza. Dall?opera letteraria al cinema il passo ? stato quasi obbligato e grazie al regista Ron Howard la storia ? stata adattata per il grande schermo: pi? di due ore di adrenalina pura per un film che si ? portato a casa due statuette (miglior montaggio, miglior sonoro) nella notte degli Oscar del 1996 dove il film fu uno dei protagonisti pi? attesi considerando le nove nomination ricevute.
