Nel 1974, un pub di Guildford è teatro di un attentato terroristico, attribuito all'IRA, l'organizzazione clandestina irlandese che lotta per la riunificazione dell'Irlanda del Nord con l'Eire. Con il sostegno di prove debolissime, quando non addirittura inventate, dell'atto criminoso vengono incolpati Gerry Conlon e tre amici di Gerry, Paul Hill, Paddy Armstrong e Carole Richardson (i Guidford Four), oltre al padre di Gerry, Giuseppe Conlon e a un'intera famiglia di parenti di Gerry residenti a Londra (che diverranno noti come i Maguire Seven), i Maguire, accusati di far parte di una rete di supporto ai terroristi......
A small time thief from Belfast, Gerry Conlon, is falsely implicated in the IRA bombing of a pub that kills several people while he is in London. Bullied by the British police, he and four of his friends are coerced into confessing their guilt. Gerry's father and other relatives in London are also implicated in the crime. He spends 15 years in prison with his father trying to prove his innocence with the help of a British attorney,................
