Ellen Ripley è morta ormai da tempo. Ma duecento anni dopo, a bordo di un'astronave laboratorio in viaggio verso la Terra, grazie ad una combinazione diabolica di genetica umana, resa possibile da un'alleanza fra una banda di contrabbandieri ribelli e un'equipe di scienziati, viene prodotto un essere alieno che si rivela molto pericoloso. Per combattere la minaccia aliena, Ellen Ripley risuscita attraverso un esperimento di clonazione. Ripley torna ma ora si chiama Clone 8, una combinazione del sangue originale con un DNA estraneo. L'esperimento che l'ha generata ha determinato mutazioni in lei e nella creatura che porta in grembo. Ripley è incinta e la sua creatura è destinata a moltiplicarsi. Per combattere e sconfiggere questo terribile destino biologico che impone l'esistenza degli alieni e che solo lei può comprendere ad un livello profondo, Ripley è costretta ad allearsi con un sanguinario gruppo di mercenari, fra i quali un meccanico che poi si rivela essere una ragazza misteriosa di nome Annalee Call. I contrasti sono sempre più cruenti, ma nei confronti senza esclusione di colpi è proprio Annalee a diventare lo strumento della resurrezione di Ripley. A lei, quando la Terra è ormai in vista, Ripley affida il compito di proseguire sul cammino della costruzione di una nuova e più ordinata esistenza.
