Trama
Sullo sfondo della vicenda c'è la finale di baseball tra Dodgers e Mets. LT (Harvey Keitel) ha scommesso sui Dodgers. LT, tra le altre cose, è un tenente di polizia, ma passa tutto il suo tempo a portare i figli a scuola (quando deve), a sequestrare droga per poi rivenderla (quando può), a sequestrare droga per poi usarla (quasi sempre). L'unica volta che fa un'azione buona è anche l'ultima azione della sua vita.
Scritto senza l'ausilio del collaboratore abituale Nicholas St. John, un noir metropolitano che si trasforma in una parabola cattolica sospesa tra sublime e osceno. Visionario ed eccessivo (dopo molte violenze, ad un certo punto appare un Cristo coloratissimo e muto), ossessionato dal tema della violenza e della redenzione, è tra i migliori film di Ferrara. Impressionante Harvey Keitel, che mostra tutta la pesantezza della carne e le ferite dello spirito.
