Trama
Hong Kong, 1962. I coniugi Chow e i coniugi Chan si trasferiscono lo stesso giorno in due appartamenti contigui. Sono il signor Chow e la signora Chan a rientrare più di frequente a casa ed è così che nel giro di breve tempo scoprono che i rispettivi consorti sono amanti. La volontà di comprendere le ragioni del tradimento subito li porterà a frequentarsi sempre più spesso e a condividere le sensazioni provate.
Per quanto l'oriente di "In The Mood For Love" sia distante anni luce nella sensibilità dal manierismo occidentale (in cui tutto sembra dover essere reso esplicito e addirittura ostentato), non si può non rimanere percossi dal modo struggente e solenne con cui Wong Kar-Wai tramuti la sua banale storia in un mood, uno stato d'animo totale e collettivo. Raccontando nient'altro che una storia d'amore, il regista (poeta, se preferite) cinese rivela quale può essere ancora oggi l'emozione che regala il cinema: la consegna di un segreto all'interno di una fenditura in un tempio immerso nel silenzio, che, come avrebbe fatto un albero secolare, lo conserverà per sempre.
