Trama
La vera storia di un 73enne deciso a far visita al fratello. I due non hanno mai avuto un grande rapporto. Alvin decide di affrontare il viaggio, intenzione che crea le giuste angosce alla figlia Rose. Ma il vecchio è irremovibile. Il viaggio non è facile, il mezzo che ha scelto è un trattore piuttosto malconcio e la strada è lunga da Laurens nell'Iowa a Mt.Zion nel Wisconsin. Molti gli incontri, compresa una coppia stralunata di fratelli meccanici (in perfetto stile Lynch). Il regista ha inteso dimostrare di saper costruire e dirigere una storia più realistica e lontana dai film visionari che lo hanno da sempre caratterizzato. La scommessa è riuscita in pieno, grazie anche alla bravura di Richard Farnsworth (attore caratterista della vecchia guardia, ha recitato in Il fiume rosso, Il selvaggio, Spartacus e I cowboys). Commovente, ironico e avvolgente è un film che resta.
