Trama
La carriera di Bud Baxter, impiegato in una grande compagnia di assicurazioni, fa balzi da gigante, ma il merito non è legato alla sua professionalità nel lavoro. Bud deve tutto al fatto che possiede un piccolo appartamento che concede ai suoi superiori, quando vogliono passare la notte con le loro amichette. Un giorno Bud, che ha ceduto la chiave al capo del personale, scopre che la donna che sta con lui è Fran, una delle addette agli ascensori su cui ha messo gli occhi.
Probabilmente il miglior film di Billy Wilder, che indaga con umorismo i rapporti che intercorrono tra le persone.
Vinse cinque premi Oscar: miglior film, regia, sceneggiatura, montaggio, scenografia.
