Trama
Il film ci racconta l’incontro in un carcere della Louisiana e la successiva convivenza in cella di tre personaggi completamente diversi: Zach (interpretato dal geniale cantautore Tom Waits), un disk jockey truffatore e alcolizzato, incapace di tenersi un lavoro, figurarsi la ragazza; Jack (che ha il volto del musicista John Lurie) un magnaccia fallito dal viso duro; infine ultimo ma non meno importante Roberto, detto Bob (il nostro Roberto Benigni), un turista italiano con il vizio del gioco d’azzardo (o meglio del barare nei giochi d’azzardo).
Daunbailò (storpiatura italiana di “Down by law”) è un film del 1986 diretto dal regista Jim Jarmush. Come tutte le pellicole del regista si tratta di un’opera controcorrente e particolare, che preferisce il bianco/nero ai colori, le inquadrature statiche a quelle dinamiche, rinuncia al doppiaggio in favore dei sottotitoli e alla spettacolarità preferisce la qualità della storia che racconta. Un po’ commedia/noir, un po’ road movie e pure un po’ fiabesco è un film che possiamo definire Borderline, esattamente come i suoi protagonisti.
Non stupisce che Jarmusch abbia imposto per la distribuzione internazionale del film il
divieto di doppiaggio: in Down by Law le parole sono orchestrate come in una partitura da cui affiorano le pause, le imprecazioni rabbiose, le lunghe tirate, capriole semantiche e ciniche stilettate.
