Trama
San Fernando Valley, 1977: il regista di film pornografici Jack Horner nota in un locale notturno un giovane lavapiatti di nome Eddie Adams. Agli occhi di Horner il ragazzo ha tutte le carte in regola per diventare famoso. L'ennesima lite con la madre convince definitivamente Eddie a fuggire dalla sua squallida esistenza per tentare la strada della celebrità. Eddie è cosciente della sua prestanza fisica e delle sue doti amatorie e proprio per questo decide di entrare nel mondo della pornografia, accetta quindi l'invito di Jack che gli illustra le sue idee. Il regista sogna di elevare il suo mestiere ad una forma d'arte: vuole fare film "veri" con una trama che coinvolga lo spettatore fino alla fine della storia.
Secondo film di Paul Thomas Anderson, autore di Magnolia: il pornocinema fa da chiave di lettura degli anni '70 libertari e trasgressivi, ma è anche l'altra faccia dell'industria hollywoodiana, un mondo a parte che il giovane sceneggiatore-regista racconta con affettuosa e lucida partecipazione: "sa parlare di sesso e di droga con leggerezza ironica, rifuggendo sia il paternalismo che il trionfalismo" (E.
