Trama
"Andiamo tutti in Paradiso. Io no! Io vado nel quarto mondo."
Due ragazzine neozelandesi si costruiscono un universo di fantasia nel quale vivono un'amicizia ai limiti del morboso. Quando si profila la minaccia della separazione, le due amiche decidono di eliminare l'ostacolo principale: la madre di una di loro.
Questa storia di "delitti innocenti" è la visionaria ricostruzione di un agghiacciante fatto di cronaca realmente avvenuto quarant'anni prima a Christchurch, in Nuova Zelanda.
Motorizzato ed effettistico, è a tutt'oggi il più famoso film 'giovanile' di Peter Jackson. Esordio delle giovane Lynskey e Kate Winslet (futura Rose di Titanic) e della società di effetti digitali Weta Digital, fondata da Jackson e Jamie Selkirk.
La pellicola, vincitrice del Leone d'argento a Venezia, ha riacceso l'interesse per la vicenda, portando accidentalmente alla luce la nuova identità assunta dall'amica-complice della matricida: Anne Perry, ora nota in tutto il mondo come scrittrice di romanzi gialli.
