Trama:
Nel 1943, la Marina britannica non riesce a salvare 2.000 soldati intrappolati sull'isola di Kheros poiché due potenti cannoni tedeschi sulla cima dell'isola di Navarone stanno affondando le navi alleate. Dopo un attacco aereo fallito, il comando alleato decide di inviare a Navarone una squadra di sei uomini travestiti da pescatori per far saltare in aria i cannoni. La squadra è comandata dal maggiore Roy Franklin ed è composta dal capitano Keith Mallory, esperto alpinista, e dal suo ex compagno, il colonnello Andrea Stavros; dall'esperto di esplosivi caporale John Anthony Miller; dal sergente ingegnere capo "Butcher" Brown; e dall'assassino greco Spyros Pappadimos, nato a Navarone. Salpano di notte e, dopo un incontro con una motovedetta tedesca e una tempesta in mare, arrivano a Navarone. Il capitano Mallory deve scalare una parete rocciosa durante una notte di pioggia battente per portare a termine la missione. Riusciranno nell'impresa?

SYNOPSIS : In 1943, a small commando team is sent to destroy huge German guns on the Greek Island of Navarone in order to rescue Allied troops trapped on Kheros. Led by British Major Franklin (Anthony Quayle), the team includes American Mallory (Gregory Peck), Greek resistance fighter Stavros (Anthony Quinn) and reluctant explosives expert Miller. Facing impossible odds, the men battle stormy seas and daunting cliffs. When Franklin is injured, Mallory takes command, and personal enmities spill over.
