Trama:
Il responsabile del settore delle attività negative della rivista Life, Walter Mitty, lavora per la rivista da 16 anni e conduce una vita noiosa, senza andare da nessuna parte se non per andare e tornare dal lavoro. È un evasore, che sogna a occhi aperti un mondo fantastico più volte al giorno. Walter ha una cotta per Cheryl Melhoff, una neoassunta, ma è troppo timido per invitarla a uscire e sta cercando di contattarla tramite incontri online. La rivista si sta preparando a pubblicare l'ultima edizione cartacea e l'odioso responsabile della transizione Ted Hendricks sta preparando un inevitabile ridimensionamento nei prossimi giorni. Walter è stato il collegamento tra la rivista e il misterioso fotografo indipendente Sean O'Connell, che gli ha inviato un pacco di negativi e un portafoglio come regalo per il suo lavoro. Sean suggerisce anche ai dirigenti di utilizzare il negativo 25 per la copertina dell'ultima edizione. Tuttavia, Walter non riesce a trovare il negativo mancante.
