Con "Touch", i membri della band dei Tortoise - Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, Douglas McCombs, John Herndon e John McEntire - sfruttano il loro approccio compositivo collettivista, un processo leggermente anarchico ma risolutamente egualitario in cui le idee trionfano sull'ego, verso una muscolarità astratta. Pur con qualche escursione nell'atmosfera jazz cupa ed elegantemente contorta che fiorì in opere epocali come "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" (1996) e "TNT" (1998), "Touch" è forse più notevole per l'incondizionata adesione dei Tortoise al gesto grandioso.
