Joan è una scrittrice di romanzi rosa, romantica e sprovveduta. Sua sorella Helen viene rapita e Joan dovrà recarsi in Colombia per pagare il riscatto: una mappa del tesoro che suo cognato le ha spedito prima di finire in pasto ai coccodrilli. In Colombia la scrittrice si ritroverà nei guai fin da subito, braccata da poliziotti corrotti e delinquenti imbranati. Per fortuna sul suo cammino incontrerà Jack, un avventuriero senza scrupoli che la salverà, finendo invischiato suo malgrado in una frenetica e delirante caccia al tesoro.
