La suggestiva immagine di copertina di un'altalena abbandonata illuminata su uno sfondo di stelle scintillanti è un'avvincente metafora visiva per la musica di Close. "La musica è un linguaggio crepuscolare", conferma Steve Tibbetts. "Il compito è tradurre un'ombra in suono". Nel suo undicesimo album per ECM, il chitarrista del Minnesota riprende la ricerca, sviluppando lentamente le sue struggenti melodie improvvisate su loop stratificati, drone e percussioni cupamente rimbombanti. Se i colori sonori, tra cui una chitarra elettrica distorta e una scintillante acustica a 12 corde, rendono questa musica dell'ovest, il suo dispiegarsi graduale, quasi ipnotico, continua a suggerire affinità orientali. "Sto ancora cercando il suono evocativo di Sultan Khan", dice Tibbetts, parlando del defunto maestro indiano di sarangi, il cui stile è da tempo tra le sue principali influenze.
