Per oltre tre decenni, gli AFI sono stati in uno stato di reinvenzione pressoché costante. La band si è prefissata di evolversi con ogni album, a volte in modo radicale, senza mai abbandonarsi a un genere troppo definito o adagiarsi sugli allori della loro impressionante carriera. È un approccio che ha ampliato il loro pubblico, ma lo ha anche sfidato con un'identità sonora in grado di evolversi in direzioni selvagge e inaspettate. Ora, con il loro dodicesimo album, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…, gli AFI sono di nuovo all'inizio di un nuovo, audace capitolo, solo che questa volta sono riusciti a sorprendere persino loro stessi.
